A two-year-old child drowned in a garden pond in Spechbach, Baden-Württemberg.
On Saturday morning, it had left the house unnoticed, the police said.
When the family noticed this, they started a search operation together with acquaintances and rescue workers.
But the child was found lifeless in a garden pond.
An emergency doctor who rushed to the scene could only confirm the child's death.
The permanent criminal service of the Mannheim police headquarters has started the investigation into the exact background of the accident.
Spechbach is located in the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis and has 1731 inhabitants.
