The social partners worried about a possible political deadlock

2022-06-25T08:49:29.479Z

Unions and employers' organizations have called with one voice on parliamentarians to place themselves in a logic of construction while the economic and social emergencies are increasing.

One calls for "

collective intelligence

", the other for "

responsibility

": trade unions and employers' organizations are worried about seeing the political game blocked for lack of a parliamentary majority, while social and economic emergencies are piling up.

The secretary general of the CFDT, Laurent Berger, sounded the alarm in L'Opinion on Tuesday: "

if the political theater becomes an exclusive place of confrontation, we will pay a high price for it

".

The number one of the first French union appeals "

to the responsibility of all parliamentarians, so that they place themselves in a logic of building solutions, not in partisan games

".

A deputy is not there to resist,

“, he insists.

" of the deputies, while "

".

"

The country is like a business: if you look at your navel, competitors are carving cruppers for you

," he worries to AFP.

Parliamentarians need to get to work together, take on their responsibilities, discuss and find the most appropriate solutions

,” echoes Dominique Métayer of U2P.

Rule by ordinances

For Cyril Chabanier, of the CFTC, it is "

not possible that simply by a political game everything is blocked

".

"

It is absolutely necessary that we find solutions in relation to inflation which is high

," he said on Radio Classique this week.

President of the CCI France, Alain Di Crescenzo sees in the political situation "

a serious source of concern

".

"

In a complex situation, we need to decide, to move forward, we need a course (...) We must find the possibility of legislating quickly

The President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron said on Friday he was "

very confident

" about being able to build "

constructive majorities

" with "

all the government parties

".

But apart from LREM renamed Renaissance, MoDem and Horizons, all the other political groups at this stage are part of the opposition.

The secretary general of the CGT, Philippe Martinez, unlike his counterpart Laurent Berger, has "

no advice to give

" to parliamentarians.

He underlines, not without irony, that the executive “

can proceed by ordinances

”, for example to impose “

the alignment of the minima of branch on the smic

”.

"

There are things that can be regulated by prescription, and since Mr. Macron loves prescriptions, well that can be done

," he said during a press conference on Tuesday in reference to Macron's prescriptions. which amended the Labor Code in 2017.

Increased role of social partners

For François Hommeril, of the CFE-CGC, the absence of a majority can encourage the President of the Republic to turn “

towards the social partners to seek a social consensus in order to then impose it on the political consensus

”.

"

I'm waiting to see anyway

," he relativizes, however.

"

The speech of the President of the Republic (Wednesday, editor's note) does not encourage me to be very optimistic (...): he has not changed his vision

," he told AFP.

Medef's number two, Patrick Martin, foresees an increased role for the social partners in the new political situation.

Our conviction is that the social partners will assume their responsibilities, will not enter into political games but will assume their convictions in a constructive way: they will have to be considered more and better, consequently

”, he writes to AFP.

The Medef will speak “

next week, after discussion of (its) authorities

”, he promises.
