(ANSA) - GENEVA, JUN 25 - Monkeypox is not for the moment to be considered a health emergency: the World Health Organization (WHO) declared it.
The statement was entrusted to the UN agency's director-general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who in a statement released after a meeting of experts, said that the monkey pest is a health threat which evolution is worrying, but which at the moment has not reached the stage of a global health emergency.
"For the time being, the event does not constitute an international public health emergency, which is the highest level of alert that WHO can issue," Tedros said.
