Jamaican Shericka Jackson signed the third fastest time ever on 200 meters in 21 "55 by winning her country's athletics championships yesterday in Kingston, three weeks before the World Athletics Championships. After winning the 100 meters on Friday, the same Jackson was surprised when she saw the time on the scoreboard, validated by the absence of wind.
"Honestly, I'm shocked, I didn't expect to go that fast, I knew I had it in my legs, but to run so fast ..." she said.
Only the late Florence Griffith-Joyner, whose world record (21 "34) has stood since 1988, and Elaine Thompson-Herah, who ran in 21" 53 last year at the Tokyo Olympics, were faster than Jackson on the 200 meters.
The 28-year-old sprinter beat her personal best by 26 cents.
She beat Olympic champion Thompson-Herah (22 "05) and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (22" 14).
