Paul David Hewson, better known as Bono, confided in a radio interview to Desert Island Discs, the discovery of the existence of a half-brother, in 2001, when he was 41 years old.
In full promotion of his autobiography
Surrender,
which will be released in November, the leader of U2 delivers.
"I have another brother, whom I love and adore, whom I didn't know I had,"
he explains, adding that his father had hidden it from him.
“I could tell my father had a deep friendship with this beautiful woman, who is part of the family, and then they had a child.
And all of this was kept secret (…) Nobody knew”,
he continues.

Bono has an older brother, Norman.
But he discovered the existence of a third sibling, a half-brother, just a year before his father died.
Learning about this brother and a secret story helped the singer rationalize his father's behavior at the time of his mother's sudden death, when Bono was a 14-year-old teenager.
“My dad was going through a lot.
His head was elsewhere because his heart was elsewhere,”
he explains.
After discovering the truth, Bono questioned his father:
“I asked him if he loved my mother.
"He said yes."
And so, I asked him
“how could this have happened?”
and he said,
“It's possible,”
and he was trying to work things out, trying to do the right thing.
He was not apologizing, he was simply stating that these are the facts.
I'm at peace with that."
After his father passed away, Bono sought solace in religion.
