(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 25 - From the recycling of cooking water to insulating straw, there are some small measures to consume less water in a time of drought and save vegetable gardens and potted plants.
Coldiretti suggests them, who with the green tutors of Campagna Amica has drawn up a vademecum.
"In a moment of very serious emergency it is necessary that water resources be concentrated on human and agricultural use", underlines the organization.
To water, a good solution can be the reuse of the cooking water of pasta, rice or vegetables;
but to keep the earth of the pots moist it is important to 'mulch' it, that is to cover it with straw which will also release beneficial substances and favor the biodiversity of the soil.
A system of
do-it-yourself irrigation (fill a bottle with water and close it with the cap where a small hole will be made then turn it upside down and place it on the ground) but there are also special water-holding gels for slow release.
For those who can do this, the advice to water in the evening is always valid so as to optimize the volume of water used which does not evaporate immediately due to solar radiation.
