The traditional supporting program of the G7 summit in Elmau has caused some criticism, scorn and ridicule.
Now Germany's southernmost state has upped the ante again.
The leaders of the leading industrialized countries and the so-called "outreach guests" were given a classic Bavarian backpack for hiking.
That was not all.
The piece of luggage was filled with sausage, cheese, drinks, a gingerbread heart and tickets for the Schafkopf game: "Bavaria should be remembered well," said Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) on Instagram.
A spokesman explained that the backpacks will be given to an “exclusive circle” of the summit participants, namely the heads of state and government of the G7 states and the invited partner countries.
Meanwhile, Söder defended the reception for the G7 leaders with traditional costumes.
"It's just part of Bavaria: modernity, but also customs," said Söder in Munich.
"It's part of our lifestyle."
He added: "It may be that one or the other doesn't like it that much - so all the guests who were there really liked it." airport had been welcomed.
»When you come to Bavaria, that's just part of it.
Bavaria is a bit different than anywhere else," said Söder.
That's why so many people like to come here.
Söder received unexpected support from the Bavarian FDP leader Martin Hagen: "Yes, when you think of Germans abroad, you often think of Bavarian costumes," Hagen wrote on Twitter and claimed: "The rest of the republic shouldn't offend us Bavarians for that , but to be grateful: before that people thought of spiked helmets.«
