Vacationers bathing have found two bodies on a beach on the Greek island of Lesbos.
The two men are migrants, Greek media reported.
The incident was confirmed by the Coast Guard and therefore happened on Sunday.
The two men are believed to have died trying to cross the strait between Turkey's west coast and Lesvos.
The bodies are to be forensically examined to determine when the people died.
In recent weeks, authorities have registered a surge in migrants attempting to cross from Turkey to Greece or through Greek waters directly to Italy.
Eight people have been missing since a sailing boat with more than 100 people on board was shipwrecked near Mykonos last week.
The Greek Coast Guard is trying to prevent the crossings.
SPIEGEL research had shown that there had also been illegal pushbacks in the past, in which the European border protection agency Frontex was also involved.
The Greek government denies carrying out pushbacks.
Athens is also demanding that Turkey stop people from leaving, as stipulated in the 2016 Turkey-EU refugee pact.
Turkey is therefore considered a safe third country.
