New artistic director for the Batsheva dance troupe:
Dr. Lior Avitsur will replace Gili Navot, who has served in the position for the past four years, and will take up the position next month.
Avitsur, 41, is a dancer, teacher, curator and researcher in the field of dance.
For the past decade, she has focused on deepening discourse and thinking about the art of dance, and has engaged in connecting the field to other cultural fields.
Among other things, she artistically directed the "Room Dance Festival" alongside Amos Hetz (2012-2015);
Edited the online journal for the performing arts "Bypass" in collaboration with Ran Brown (2017-2010) and curated the dance series "Counterpoint" at the Tel Aviv Museum (2017-2014).
At the same time, Avitsur teaches theory and practice in various settings, and accompanies dance and performance works as a dramatist and artistic advisor.
She was invited in 2019 by the band's former artistic director, Israel Prize winner Ohad Naharin, to take part in the founding of the band's school - and run it.
