Monkey pox: why the WHO is not raising its highest level of alert... yet

Monkeypox does not currently constitute an international public health emergency, the World Organization's emergency committee has ruled.


January 23, 2020. The World Health Organization (WHO) emergency committee considers that Covid-19 does not represent a “public health emergency of international concern” (USPPI).

A week later, on January 30, 2020, the same group of experts is this time unanimous: the highest level of alert must be triggered, obliging each State to increase surveillance.
