The number of category A job seekers, which for the first time in a year started to rise again in April (+0.3%), resumed its decline in May with 25,300 fewer registered (-0.8 per cent to 3.153 million, according to Labor Department figures released on Monday.

Including reduced activity (categories B and C), the number of job seekers in France (excluding Mayotte) decreased by 23,900 (-0.4%) and stood at 5.432 million, according to Dares.

The Ministry's Statistics Department (Dares) does not comment on the monthly data, which is too volatile, favoring quarterly changes.
The latest quarterly results published at the end of April had shown a sharp drop of 5% in the first quarter compared to the previous quarter, or 170,000 fewer registered in category A, to 3.193 million on average over the three months.
For ABC, the decline was 2.7% to 5.533 million.
In May, Pôle emploi still listed 2.4 million long-term job seekers (DELD, unemployed for more than a year) in metropolitan France.
Mobilization plan
During a visit to a Parisian Pôle emploi agency, the first since his appointment, the new Minister of Labor Olivier Dussopt stressed that this number had decreased by "240,000 since October" with the establishment in the fall of a 1.4 billion euro plan aimed at remobilizing and training long-term job seekers in jobs in tension (hotels and restaurants, transport, personal assistance, construction, etc.)
“This plan works well, the Pole agencies are very mobilized and the actions implemented are effective”, he judged after a round table devoted to the difficulties of recruitment in the hotel and catering industry.
Olivier Dussopt wishes to “amplify this plan through complementary actions sector by sector” and “more individualized paths”.
“The closer we get to full employment, the more we have to personalize the support” for the unemployed furthest from employment, he pleaded.
