Putin in Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, first war trip

Russian state TV reported that Vladimir Putin will visit Tajikistan and Turkmenistan this week, the Russian president's first known trip abroad since the start of the war in Ukraine. (HANDLE)


(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 27 - Russian state television reported that Vladimir Putin will visit Tajikistan and Turkmenistan this week, the Russian president's first known trip abroad since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.


   Rossiya channel 1 explained that Putin will visit the two small states of the former Soviet Union in Central Asia and then meet Indonesian President JokoWidodo in Moscow for talks.

According to the Russian broadcaster, Putin will meet Tajik President Imomali Rakhmon - a close Russian ally and the longest-lived ruler of a former Soviet state - in Dushanbe, while in Ashgabat he will participate in a summit of the Caspian nations with the leader of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Iran and Turkmenistan.


   Russia's Ria Novosti news agency added that Putin also plans to visit the Belarusian city of Grodno on June 30 and July 1, to participate in a forum with President Alexander Lukashenko.
