(ANSA) - ROME, June 27 - Six thousand people were rescued in the sea by the Coast Guard vehicles in 2021. This is what is read in the annual report of the Corps presented today in the presence of the Minister of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility, Enrico Giovannini and the commander general, admiral Nicola Carlone.
Overall, 1,529 events coordinated in favor of all users of the sea: boaters (789 events), swimmers (324), divers (45), fishermen (24).
In 2021, 318 people in danger of life were rescued and saved with the sole aid of satellite technology, 306 of which in areas subject to Italian responsibility.
Overall, thirty research and assistance operations were supported, of which 9 relating to maritime rescue, 20 relating to aeronautical accidents and one relating to a terrestrial event.
The Coast Guard is present throughout the 8,000km coast line and on the major lakes, with 562 naval units of different sizes and types.
This device guarantees, with a 24-hour service, the research and rescue activities in the Italian SAR area of responsibility, which corresponds to approximately one fifth of the entire Mediterranean.
