(ANSA) - BEIJING, June 28 - Beijing and Shanghai have zeroed cases of Covid-19, for the first time in four months.

China's capital and main financial hub contained the virus after a fierce struggle that resulted in millions of people in lockdowns, repeated mass tests and restrictions on daily life that have had a severe impact on every aspect of society and the economy.

On Monday, the two cities did not report new infections for the first time since February 19, the National Health Commission reported, noting that in the country 22 local infections have been ascertained in all, of which one confirmed and 21 asymptomatic.

China has also announced the halving of the mandatory quarantine period, from 3 weeks to 10 days, for international visitors as part of the ninth plan developed by the National Health Commission to prevent and fight the new coronavirus.
