She campaigned until the end for others affected: BBC presenter Deborah James, who was suffering from colon cancer, is dead. The 40-year-old died peacefully surrounded by her relatives, the British family said on the official Instagram account.

James was a "wonderful wife, daughter, sister and mother".

"We are incredibly proud of her and her work and dedication to charitable campaigns, fundraisers and her tireless efforts to raise awareness for cancer," the post continued.

James was an "inspiration".

James was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2016.

Since then, she has kept her followers on Instagram up to date on treatments and the progression of the disease.

In May, she made it public that she didn't have long to live.

At the same time, she launched the donation campaign called the "Bowelbabe Fund" - after the English term "bowel cancer" for colon cancer.

The donations collected will benefit cancer research.

Because of her commitment, Queen Elizabeth II knighted James and made the presenter a dame.

The Instagram post of her death concludes with "a few final words" shared by James' family: "Find a life worth enjoying;

take risks;

love deeply;

no regrets;

and always, always have a rebellious hope.

And finally, checking your poop — it could save your life.”
