The judge saw in fact an attempted murder: The district court in Hanover has sentenced a 46-year-old man to seven years in prison for attempted murder and assault.
The accused wanted to use his attack dog to kill a 19-year-old.
Judge Stefan Joseph said in the verdict that it was "low motive if you think you want to play justice yourself when you take revenge".
The public prosecutor's office had previously also demanded a sentence of seven years in their pleadings, while the defense advocated an acquittal.
At the start of the trial, the convict denied that he had set his dog on the young man and then injured him with a knife.
The 19-year-old suffered deep cuts in the attack in September 2021, the attack dog is said to have bitten the victim's foot and brought him to the ground.
According to the court, it was revenge because the 19-year-old had injured the convict's son in an argument a year earlier.
According to the district court, the 19-year-old had already been convicted in a separate procedure.
