Industry: turnover rises by 2.7% in April, at the top since 2000

(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 28 - The conjunctural growth of industry turnover continues in April, marking a new record.

With an increase of 2.7% compared to March, the seasonally adjusted index "touches the highest level since the beginning of the historical series" in January 2000, observes Istat.

Compared to the previous year, adjusted for calendar effects, total turnover grew by 22% on a trend basis, with increases of 21.8% on the domestic market and 22.5% on the foreign market.


    The institute underlines that the economic trend "is less accentuated considering the indicator in terms of volume, available for the manufacturing sector".


    In fact, the volume data for manufacturing indicate an increase of 1.1% in April compared to March and of 5,


    Returning to the data in terms of value for the industry as a whole, in April the monthly increase in turnover concerns the domestic and foreign components with the same intensity.

Among the main groupings of industries, the seasonally adjusted indexes of turnover show cyclical increases for energy (+ 6%), capital goods (+ 3.5%), consumer goods (+ 2.1%) and intermediate goods (+2, 0%).


    Compared to the previous year, Istat recorded very marked trend increases for energy (+ 64.4%), intermediate goods (+ 30.3%) and consumer goods (+ 21.9%);

the increase for capital goods was more contained (+ 4.0%).

"All sectors of economic activity show growth in trend terms, with the exception of means of transport" (down by 18.3%), states the note.
