Even if avocados stay fresh longer in the fridge, cool storage is not always an advantage.

Here's what you should know about the topic.

Munich – Avocados are not only a popular fruit among vegetarians and vegans;

Meat eaters also appreciate the valuable fatty acids and the presence of E, A and B6 vitamins.

In addition, the stone fruit from Mexico is said to have a detoxifying effect.

But if you store the avocado incorrectly, you risk rotting it quickly.

As soon as you unpack the avocado from the shopping bag, the first reflex is to put the healthy fruit in the fridge together with other fruits and vegetables.

But before that, you should consider the following:

  • The cold slows down the natural ripening process of the avocado.

    However, you should note that a temperature below eight degrees Celsius can lead to a rubbery consistency and bitterness in the fruit from the laurel family.

  • If you have bought an avocado that already gives way under slight pressure, but you only want to eat the fruit in a day or two, it is in good hands in the vegetable drawer.

  • If you need the avocado for dips or guacamole, storing it in the refrigerator is a hindrance.

  • If the avocado is still too hard, you can let it ripen at room temperature together with a banana.

  • Cut avocados should always be stored in the refrigerator, as they spoil less quickly that way.
