"They Understand the Gameplay": The Moon Years Star on the Series and the First Single | Israel today

Noah Engelhard, best known for playing Aviv Geffen in the series "Moon Years", prefers to be identified with his music • Ahead of the launch of the first single "Head to the Foxes" he says: "I'm not really connected to mainstream art"

In more than one sense Noah Engelhard is an accurate representative of the spirit of the time.

In Tel Aviv he is known in intellectual circles of literature and poetry, in the rest of the country he is mainly identified as the young tormented Geffen, whom he played in the pseudo-biographical series "Moon Years".

He draws inspiration from musicians like Leonard Cohen and Serge Ginsburg, composers defined by their love of Judaism and women, while he himself comes out with a question that cultivates a rather androgynous look.

On the one hand he despises contemporary saccharine pop and does not see himself facing Margie.

On the other hand, as "Fox's Head" proves, his first single from an EP of the same name, catchy synth pop with an infectious hook he knows how to do.

In an age defined by gender fluidity, stylistic etiquette and warfare between genres and categories, Engelhard could be the poster boy of the period.

Especially when half of Geffen's face and half of Geffen's on the poster.

"I'm not really that attached to mainstream art and pop," he says.

"Fox Heads has a hook that I'm glad catches people, but it's not really a song for Galgalatz."

If there was a time to play it on a few pitches, this is probably the time.

Thus, there seems to be an internal conflict of identities.

"Maybe I'm a bit defending myself from failure that I do not make these comparisons, but I do what I like to do. I started singing in Hebrew because I address the audience here and I want them to hear the things I do. I think at least in the narrative genre do not succeed Understand songs here in English. I'm trying to write in Hebrew and I'm also happy with it, it's fun for me. "With each other. Also around the series - I do not come from these circles and it was a little difficult for me to see myself fit in there, but at the same time I said: Fuck it, why not? These are two opposite things but they exist together."

"Fuck it, why not?".

On the one hand, the series was killed by the critics, but in terms of number of viewers it was considered a success.

More duality.

"I think the person who should be protected is Aviv. But as I said, the numbers are good and in this respect everyone is happy in my opinion. I think that in the end even the seemingly elitist circles saw it with a good eye, because they understand the gameplay involved."

Will you participate in the second season?

"Yeah, also because I'm committed to the contract, but also because I end up not making a living from music right now. It's totally a good income option. It's a real and hard job. I'd love to participate in that or other things."

Sounds like in a certain place and unusually to train something in exposure embarrasses you.

"It's really combined with the fact that 'the big publicity' came from a field I don't deal with in the first place, I had no dreams and aspirations to be an actor. So being famous as such an actor shook the depths of my soul. "I heard your new song and flew over it" - I will not hide to the instruments. So I will actually inflate my chest. "

Noah Engelhard will launch "Head for the Foxes" on July 2 at Levontin 7 in Tel Aviv.
