Damascus University and Damascus Petrochemical Refinery Company signed today a scientific and technical cooperation agreement with the aim of supporting the process of transferring scientific, technical and applied knowledge to the university academic community and providing consultations and specialized scientific services to the company.

Under the agreement signed by the President of Damascus University, Dr. Muhammad Osama Al-Jabban, and the Director of the Damascus Petrochemical Refinery Company, Dr. Samer Abu Ammar, on behalf of the Chairman of the Board Ahmed Al-Ansari, the two sides will cooperate in the fields of research, joint scientific activities and training through the implementation of joint basic and applied scientific research in the field of environmental development and the establishment of courses Joint training to serve the rehabilitation of cadres from both sides in all areas of common interest, as needed and within previously agreed upon programs.

The five-year agreement also guarantees training and qualification of undergraduate students at Damascus University within the company in various fields of common interest, as well as holding workshops, lectures and seminars under the supervision and coordination of the two sides, receiving master's students and participating in supervising their research and experiences that take place in the refinery, in addition to establishing Scientific competitions and keeping the winning articles for collection and publication in a book that is distributed free of charge to college offices and rewarding the winning articles according to the regulating laws.

According to the terms of the agreement, the results obtained from the joint research programs are considered the joint property of the two sides in this agreement and may not be issued or exploited commercially by any party without obtaining the written consent of the other team. A follow-up and coordination committee is also formed between the two sides with a statement of its tasks and responsibilities.

In a statement to the media, Dr. Al-Jabban indicated that Damascus University is linked to the Damascus Petrochemical Refinery Company through a previous agreement that had a contribution to sponsoring a number of distinguished research projects. Currently, it has been agreed with the company to expand the sponsorship to include an additional number of projects and research related to the environment and oils of various kinds, namely From the core of the company's work, as well as the visit of a number of students of technical institutes to the company for training, in addition to the agreement to sponsor a number of economic projects and scientific conferences to be held at Damascus University.

In turn, Dr. Samer Abu Ammar, the company’s director, explained that the agreement comes in the context of the company’s scientific plan to keep pace with the scientific developments taking place in the fields of environment, chemical and petrochemical industries by providing the opportunity for students and academic researchers in the undergraduate and master’s stages to apply their research and implement their experiments in the company’s laboratories and test their scientific production in a way. An application on the company's products, noting the role of workshops, seminars and scientific lectures in linking education to the labor market and raising the level of scientific research when drawing conclusions and recommendations aimed at improving the reality of the environment and the chemical and petrochemical industries.

It is noteworthy that the Damascus Refinery Company has been cooperating with Damascus University since 2007 and has previously supported and supervised many research and graduation projects for students of Damascus University in the field of environment, quality and honesty, and worked on printing a book (The Road to an Environment) to support the concept of a clean environment, and the company is fully prepared and willing to Support any scientific project or applied research that contributes to the development of the environment.
