The Oscar Academy has invited 397 new members.

Newcomers include musician Billie Eilish and actress Anya Taylor-Joy (»The Queen's Gambit«).

Half of the invitees came from the USA.

44 percent are women, and 37 percent belong to minorities, said the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

For years, the organization, which has around 9,000 members, has been trying to become more diverse.

The path to the Academy leads through an Oscar nomination or other special merits for the film.

The new members will be able to vote on the awarding of the Oscars in the future.

This year it is noticeable that young artists in particular received an invitation.

In addition to Eilish and Taylor-Joy, these include actors Kodi Smit-McPhee (»The Power of the Dog«), Ariana DeBose (Oscar for »West Side Story«) and Jessie Buckley (»Woman in the Dark«).
