(ANSA) - BEIJING, June 29 - China will maintain the policy of 'zero tolerance for Covid' until the "final victory", despite the repercussions to the economy due to the Draconian lockdowns.
This was stated by President Xi Jinping, assuring that the pandemic is "a great test" and justifying the hard lines introduced centrally.
"It is better to temporarily influence economic development a little than to harm people's lives and health, particularly to protect the elderly and children," Xi said in the Xinhua agency report, on an inspection visit to Wuhan, the capital of Hubei. Covid-19 emerged at the end of 2019.
