Digital: Mitd, awarded all races for fast internet

(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 29 - All tenders have been assigned to bring fast internet to the country, an objective set by the PNR.

The tenders for the new 5g mobile networks and for the 15th lot for Italy at 1giga have been concluded - the ministry for Technological Innovation and Digital Transition announced.

    Italy will be the first country in Europe to have, thanks to public intervention, high-performance 5G mobile networks entirely bound in optical fiber, capable of guaranteeing very high speed and minimum latency everywhere.

    The call for tenders, managed by Infratel Italia on the basis of the agreement stipulated with the Department for digital transformation and Invitalia, awarded approximately 346 million euros and includes 6 geographical areas (the so-called lots) that have been assigned to the temporary grouping of companies composed of Inwit, Vodafone and Tim.

The funding covers up to 90% of the total cost of the works.

All the other operators concerned will have wholesale access to the infrastructures financed according to the conditions defined by the Authority for guarantees in communications (Agcom).

    The 15th lot of the "Italia a 1 Giga" tender, relating to the coverage with fixed networks of the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano and equal to 65 million euros, was instead assigned to Tim.
