(ANSA) - MADRID, 29 JUN - The leaders of the NATO countries have formally invited Finland and Sweden.
This can be read in a declaration from the Madrid summit in which the accession process of Helsinki and Stockholm to the Alliance is launched.
"The accession of Finland and Sweden will make these countries safer, NATO stronger and the Euro-Atlantic area safer. The security of Finland and Sweden is of direct importance to the Alliance, including during the accession process."
This is what we read in the final communiqué of the NATO summit in Madrid.
