Did you know: You don't necessarily need avocados for a delicious guacamole.

Unfortunately, there are good reasons not to eat avocados, especially from the perspective of the environmental balance: Cultivation uses a lot of water in areas that are already dry and the long transport routes from Africa or South America result in high CO2 emissions.

Pea Guacamole Recipe: The Ingredients

175 g peas (fresh or frozen)
1 clove garlic
1/2 red onion
1 tomato
1/2 chilli (can be omitted)
1.5 tbsp olive oil
juice of 1/2 lemon
salt and pepper

Peas are suitable as an avocado substitute for guacamole for various reasons: They have a creamy consistency and a mild taste.
In addition, they are regional and healthy: the small green balls are full of protein, vitamins and fiber.

This is how you make delicious pea guacamole: without any avocados
Boil the peas with a little water in a saucepan for about 5 minutes.
Then pour the cooking water into a container and set aside – you will need it later!
Mash the peas with a hand blender.
Peel the garlic and onion and cut both into small cubes.
With these tricks, onion cutting works without tears.
Wash and cut the tomato into fine pieces as well.
If you like it spicy and want to use chili, cut the pod into small pieces.
Now mix the pea puree with garlic, onion, tomato, chili and olive oil and lemon juice.
Gradually add some of the pea cooking water from step 1 to get the right consistency.
Season the guacamole with salt, pepper and cumin.
The
homemade pea guacamole
is ready.
It is best to let the dip cool down in the fridge for a few hours so that it can infuse well and tastes even better.
You can also store the guacamole in the fridge for a few days by filling it in a container with a lid.
