The opening dinner of the NATO summit, organized this year by Felipe VI and Letizia of Spain, was held on Tuesday June 28 in Madrid. The opportunity for the French president to allow himself a gesture of gallantry.

After vigorously shaking hands with Felipe VI, Emmanuel Macron, accompanied by his wife Brigitte Macron, advanced towards Letizia of Spain, seizing her hand and leaning towards it for a traditional kiss on the hand, carried out in the rules of art, that is, by bowing and barely touching the back of the outstretched hand.

The approach seemed to surprise the main concerned a little.

Once the couple and group photo shoots were done, all the guests were invited to leave the Salle des halberdiers to join the dinner organized as a prelude to the NATO summit.

This year, the event gathers at the Ifema exhibition center in Madrid, on Wednesday June 29 and Thursday June 30, to mark the 40th anniversary of Spain's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

Alongside the 30 allied countries, four Asia-Pacific countries (Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea) have been invited, four other member countries of the European Union, as well as the heads of the European Commission and of the European Council.
