(ANSA) - MILAN, JUN 29 - The sixteenth edition of the MiTo festival is the theme of light, which from 5 to 25 September will animate Milan and Turin with 116 unpublished concerts at popular prices, which reach a maximum of 30 euros, La luce che si rekindled after the two years of pandemic where the festival had to give up the great orchestras that instead come back in this edition.


    The inauguration will be on September 5 at the Lingotto in Turin and on September 5 at the Scala in Milan with the Philharmonia Orchestra directed by John Axelrod who will perform, among other things, the Italian premiere of Grace-Evangeline Mason's 'The Imagined Forest', but the symphony orchestra will also be present. Rai at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia orchestra with Barbara Hannigan in the double role of conductor and singer.

Fourteen great pianists will dedicate an appointment in peripheral theaters each to a great music.

Ivo Pogorelich will return, while pianist Maria João Pires will perform with the Neojiba orchestra, the youth orchestra of the Brazilian state of Bahia.

BecauseMiTo unites established and young musicians and different musical expressions (in this case Beethoven and Jamberé Cerquier, of whom Kamaramusik for berimbau, percussion and orchestra will be performed for the first time in Italy).

The goal - explained the president of MiTo Anna Gastel and the artistic director Nicola Campogrande, confirmed in the role also for 2023 - continues to be to welcome a "heterogeneous audience" of classical enthusiasts interested in new and rare things in the program and one of newbies who are approaching this genre for the first time.

MiTo Settembremusica confirms its soul but also looks to the future (thanks also to the special law that recognized it as a Festival of absolute international prestige and which guaranteed it a state funding of 1 million) and an upcoming agreement with the Nuits de Fourvière festival in Lyon.
