There are changes to the income tax.

From July 2022, employees will receive more net from the gross.

For others, there could be a large payback.

Hamm - A comprehensive relief package is intended to mitigate the sharp increase in the cost of living for consumers in Germany and North Rhine-Westphalia since the beginning of the year.

This includes: the 9-euro ticket for bus and train, the fuel discount, the heating subsidy (information on the amount and time of payment) and more.

There will also be an innovation in income tax from July 2022, which will leave employees with more money in their wallets.

Change in income tax: More money for employees from July

More net from the gross: Millions of people can look forward to this, because the income tax rate will be adjusted.

Three things are changing in favor of employees.

  • basic allowance

  • distance fee

  • employee lump sum

The federal government has decided to raise the

basic

 income tax allowance, reports wa.de.

It increases by 363 euros from 9,984 to 10,347 euros per year.

It means quite simply: people in an employment relationship have to pay less tax to the tax office.

According to the government, this measure should compensate - at least partially - for the cold progression according to the actual inflation rate in 2021 and the estimated inflation rate in 2022.

Income tax: Changes to basic allowance and distance allowance

The

distance allowance

for commuters increases from 35 to 38 cents from the 21st kilometer.

This is intended to mitigate higher costs for trips to work, which are caused, among other things, by CO2 pricing.

The regulation applies to the years 2022 to 2026 and regardless of whether the car, bus, train, bicycle or other means of transport is used.

The so-called

employee

lump sum, which taxpayers can claim as income-related expenses in their tax returns, has risen from 1,000 to 1,200 euros per year (plus 200 euros).

The changes apply from July retrospectively to January 1, 2022. The taxpayers' association expects that millions of employees with their July salary may receive a kind of repayment for the excess wage tax paid since the beginning of the year.

From July, less wage tax will be paid to the tax office every month.

Income tax: Relief for the time being only for employees

But how high is the relief actually?

The taxpayers' association has drawn up a model calculation for this purpose.

According to this, a family of four, in which the mother and father work and each earn 3000 euros gross, saves 256 euros a year in income tax.

A single person with a gross monthly salary of 2,500 euros pays 124 euros less income tax per year.

For the time being, the income tax relief will only apply to employees.

The self-employed and pensioners who do not pay wage tax can only claim the higher allowances with the tax return for 2022 (to be submitted in 2023).

Then there could be a hefty payback for them too.

When looking at fuel prices, many motorists will think that the tank discount has fizzled out.

The first calls for the end of the relief package are becoming louder.
