What are internet users doing?
They watch videos.
In its latest report on the State of the Internet, the Telecoms Regulatory Authority (Arcep) points out that 53.72% of global traffic is made up of videos.
In France, video represents 51% of flows.
Netflix, Google (with YouTube), Facebook, Amazon (with Prime Video) and Akamai alone account for more than half of the traffic.
The latter is a service provider whose job is to optimize the routing of content, in particular that of the Gafa!
However, the prize goes to Netflix, which alone occupies more than 20% of the bandwidth.
And this is just an average.
Telecom operators estimate that during peak hours, video traffic occupies 75% of their networks!

The weight of video is further increased by its presence in other categories, such as social networks, which constitute 12.69% of global traffic, online games (5.67%) or messaging solutions: WhatsApp, zoom etc.
