(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 30 - Shooting has begun in Roccabianca (Parma) for the new film by Marco Bellocchio, THE CONVERSION, inspired by the story of Edgardo Mortara, the Jewish child who in 1858 was removed from his family of origin to be raised as a Catholic in the custody of Pope Pius IX.

Laconversione is played by Paolo Pierobon, Barbara Ronchi, Fausto Russo Alesi, Filippo Timi and Fabrizio Gifuni and by EneaSala (Edgardo Mortara as a child) and Leonardo Maltese (daragazzo).

The film is an IBCmovie and Kavac Film production with RaiCinema with the support of the Emilia Romagna Region and the support of its Film Commission, in co-production with Ad VitamProduction (France) and Match Factory Productions (Germany) and is produced by Beppe Caschetto and Simone Gattoni.

The script is by Marco Bellocchio and Susanna Nicchiarelli with the collaboration of Edoardo Albinati, Daniela Ceselli and the historical consultancy of Pina Totaro;

the photography is by FrancescoDi Giacomo, the scenography by Andrea Castorina, the costumes by Sergio Ballo and Daria Calvelli, the editing is by Francesca Calvelli.

The film is shot in different locations in Emilia-Romagna, in Rome and Paris and the shooting will end in September.


   The conversion will be distributed theatrically by 01 Distribution.
