(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 1 - PZL-Świdnik has been awarded a contract in Poland with a gross value of EUR 1.76 billion for 32 AW149 multi-role helicopters for the armed forces.
The company, entirely controlled by Leonardo, will act as prime contractor, building a production line for helicopters in Poland with deliveries in the period 2023-2029.
"The achievement of this contract provides further proof of our commitment to the constant development of helicopter capabilities and the local supply chain, with important returns for the helicopter industry in Poland, considered strategic", comments the CEO of Leonardo Alessandro Profumo.
PZL-Świdnik will build a local production line for new helicopters.
Leonardo - explains the company - will therefore make further investments in the Polish plant in addition to those totaling approximately one billion euros already made since 2010, which has significantly strengthened the competitiveness and industrial capabilities of PZL-Świdnik.
This - as highlighted by Leonardo - provides an important contribution to the Polish aeronautical and defense industry, with the realization of local production, logistic base and complete technical support capacity for the AW149 of the Polish Ministry of Defense, in line with the commitments of Leonardo ePZL-Świdnik aimed at ensuring industrial returns for Poland ".
