Not only seniors, but also young adults and children suffer from high blood pressure.
Those affected can lower their blood pressure even without medication.
High blood pressure
is the number one widespread disease
in
Germany .
About a third of the population suffers from high
blood pressure.
But even without
medication
, blood pressure can be lowered and holistic
health
promoted.
Frankfurt – High blood pressure affects a large number of people in
Germany
.
More precisely: around 20 to 30 million Germans.
That corresponds to about a third of the population, according to figures from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).
It has long been known that it is not just older people who suffer from high
blood pressure
.
Young adults and even children and adolescents are also affected.
The German Hypertension League (DHL) and the Society for
Hypotension
and Prevention estimate that
around 700,000 children and young people in
Germany
are struggling with
high blood pressure .
The main causes are poor nutrition and too little exercise.
And high blood pressure can have serious consequences.
It is considered one of the most dangerous risk factors for
strokes
,
heart attacks
and many other diseases of the
cardiovascular system
.
If high blood pressure is diagnosed by doctors, it is often
necessary to use various
medications that lower
blood pressure
reduce.
However, this should not be taken too early, as this can also lead to the development of new health problems.*
High blood pressure limit: risk to health even at lower values
For an adult, the ideal
blood pressure
is below 120/80 mmHg.
This means the value for the systolic blood pressure
,
i.e. the pressure in the contraction and ejection phase,
is not higher than 120 mmHg and that for the diastolic blood pressure (lowest pressure in relaxation and expansion phase) is not higher than 80 mmHg.
The average value is 130/85 mmHg.
According to the definition, one speaks of hypertension from a limit of 140/90 mmHg.
However, the Robert Koch Institute points out that even lower values can lead to an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases.
However, doctors usually do not prescribe any
medication
at these values .
Optimal blood pressure | up to 120/80 mmHG (systolic/diastolic) |
---|---|
normal blood pressure | 120 to 129/80 to 84mmHg |
High-normal blood pressure | 130 to 139/85 to 89 mmHg |
Mild Hypertension (Stage 1) | 140 to 159/90 to 99 mmHg |
Moderate hypertension (stage 2) | 160 to 179/100 to 109 mmHg |
Severe Hypertension (Stage 3) | more than 180/110 mmHg |

Widespread disease high blood pressure: A mixture of predisposition and lifestyle
The cause of high blood pressure is often a mixture of hereditary predisposition and lifestyle.
As a first measure against high
blood pressure
, those affected should always try to make their lifestyle more active.
Regular exercise and sports - ideally in the fresh air - and the associated reduction in excess weight help to minimize the risk of
high blood pressure
.

According to "herstiftung.de", a weight loss of around four kilograms reduces blood pressure by an average of three to five mmHg.
In addition, switching to a healthier
diet
can have a significant impact on blood pressure and lower it naturally.
Stress
should
also be avoided as much as possible.
Changing your diet for better health: Lower your blood pressure with simple remedies
When it comes to
nutrition
, there are several ways
to naturally lower
blood pressure .
So without the use of
drugs
.
For example, eating less salt
helps
.
According to "herzstiftung.de", saving a teaspoon of salt per day lowers the systolic value by about 5 mmHg and the diastolic value by almost 3 mmHg.
In general, a balanced
diet
increases overall
health
and general well-being.
But some foods also actively help to lower
blood pressure
in particular and thus prevent a variety of
diseases
.
For example, beetroot has an antihypertensive effect.
This is due to the nitrates contained in the juice.
When in contact with human saliva, these turn into nitrite, which then dilates blood vessels and lowers blood pressure.
Dieter Klaus, heart specialist and member of the scientific advisory board of the German Heart Foundation, explains this on the foundation's website.
Health: Various foods can naturally lower blood pressure
According to "herzstiftung.de", foods such as ginger or dark chocolate are said to have a similar blood pressure-lowering effect - only from a cocoa content of at least 85 percent.
The University of Cambridge in the UK has also found that chamomile tea helps lower blood pressure.
In addition, people who suffer from high
blood pressure
should avoid smoking and excessive consumption of alcohol.
Both constrict the blood vessels and thus increase the risk of
high blood pressure
.
The German Hypertension League estimates that a good half of all strokes and heart attacks could be avoided by switching to a healthy lifestyle at an early stage.
Patients with elevated
blood pressure
should always seek medical advice.
The measures described for lowering blood pressure are considered possible supplements, but not as sole therapeutic measures.
