The iceberg is sweating (06/30/2022)
The coastal town of Ilulissat in western Greenland is known for the massive icebergs floating in Disko Bay.
But the question is for how long.
Because the Arctic is warming up quickly - and the icebergs are disappearing, as this photo also shows: Where the ice melts, turquoise water collects on the surface of the iceberg.

Aaaaaaacooling down! (06/28/2022)
An extreme heat wave is currently rolling over Japan, people are trying to cool down as best they can - like here in water mist in Tokyo.
Last Saturday, the highest temperature in history was measured in Isezaki, a town 85 kilometers from the capital: more than 40 degrees Celsius.
The government now fears a power shortage, especially in Tokyo, because so many air conditioning systems are running.
That's why there were instructions to set the systems to 28 degrees in order to save electricity - and still at least avoid heat stroke.

Rainman (06/27/2022)
The tennis tournament in Wimbledon began - typically British - with plenty of rain.
While the center court and court 1 could be played without any problems thanks to the roof, the players on the other courts had to deal with interruptions.
And even the helpers, like one of the many stewards here, occasionally got wet.

Artistic swimming is the name of the discipline where you swim to music.
Something that looks so light and elegant demands a lot from the athletes.
Like here an athlete from the Greek team at the World Championships in Budapest.
An American swimmer even lost consciousness after the freestyle at the tournament.

Flooded (06/18/2022)
When sandbags and suction pumps were no longer able to counter the water masses, many of the 450 residents of Fromberg in Montana had to abandon their homes to the floods of the overflowing Clark Fork River.
This figure of a rabbit, which was actually supposed to decorate a garden, is only a small collateral damage of what a married couple who fled the place in good time describes as the "flood of the century".

In Baden-Württemberg, young allis shad swim around in a tank.
The animals, which belong to the species of herring fish, will soon be released into the Rhine.
As a result of industrialization, a large part of the allis shad habitat disappeared from local waters.
That should change.
The allis shad project to reintroduce them to the Rhine and its tributaries has been running since 2017.
There these animals are supposed to mature into beautiful, silvery fish.

End of a Kingdom (06/14/2022)
It wasn't just a bar, not just a sight, but something of a Hong Kong icon: for 46 years, the "Jumbo Kingdom" was in Aberdeen Harbor - the green pagoda roof in sharp contrast to the skyscrapers of the megacity.
More than 2000 people were able to take a seat in what is probably the largest floating restaurant in the world to be served dim sum and Cantonese specialties.
A total of 30 million guests are said to have come here, including Queen Elizabeth II and film stars such as Elizabeth Taylor, John Wayne and Tom Cruise.
But now the end of the famous culinary barge has been sealed.
The "Jumbo" has been making losses for years, today it was towed away.

Heavy objects were sometimes thrown hundreds of meters away, he saw "balls of fire" in the sky that fell like burning rain.
The authorities speak of dozens dead and hundreds injured.
