Sports ministers from 33 countries signed a joint declaration calling for the suspension of the membership of Russia and Belarus in international sports organizations and to ban television broadcasts of international sports competitions in these countries: this was announced by the minister of sports and tourism. Polish, Kamil Bortniczuk, during a briefing, according to Tass.
According to the minister, the statement refers to "restrictions that must affect athletes from Russia and Belarus in the context of what has been happening in Ukraine in recent months".
The Polish minister said such a measure would be necessary "because cases similar to those of bobsleigh and skeleton occur, which could open the doors to the return of Russian federations, Russian and Belarusian athletes in international sports".
"We ask that the membership of Russian and Belarusian sports federations in international organizations be suspended; we ask that the representatives of Russia and Belarus be excluded from the management bodies of the international federations and that the television broadcasting of international sports competitions on Russian and Belarusian territory be suspended", Bortniczuk said.
The declaration was signed by 25 EU countries (except Bulgaria and Hungary), as well as by ministers from the United Kingdom, the United States, New Zealand, Australia,
