Xi, true Hong Kong democracy that began with a return to China

(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 01 - Hong Kong's "true democracy" began 25 years ago, with "the return of the territories to the homeland" which opened "a new era in its history": Chinese President Xi Jinping said that the city has overcome various difficulties and challenges, continuing with passicostanti "to integrate actively" in the development of the country.

   Over the past 25 years, Hong Kong has enjoyed solid economic growth and has maintained its status as a global financial, maritime and commercial center, thanks to "the practice of 'one country, two systems' which has achieved recognized success by all".

In his speech, the president asked Hong Kong to respect the socialist system and the leadership of the Communist Party. "The socialist system - he said - is the fundamental system of the People's Republic. And the leadership of the Communist Party is the distinctive feature of socialism with Chinese characteristics. All residents must conscientiously respect and support our country's fundamental system and the full and faithful implementation of the 'one country two systems' policy.
