Elon Musk says he was received by Pope Francis.
The multi-billionaire posted a photo with the head of the church, which also includes four of his sons.
Musk wrote that he was honored to have met the pontiff on Friday.
There was no communication from the Vatican.
Musk was not on the official visit list, so he may have met the head of the Catholic Church in a more private setting.
According to Italian media, the two men talked in the Santa Marta guest house, where Francis also lives, about technology and how it could help people in the future.
Musk published the photo of the meeting on Saturday night after not tweeting for a week and a half.
One detail of the photo in particular was discussed online.
Many users commented that Musk's suit was ill-fitting.
Musk responded to one of those comments self-critically.
His suit is indeed "tragic".
