The actor Elyas M'Barek has experienced sexism on the film set in the past, which he would now deal with differently.
"I once had to shoot a sex scene and the director said beforehand: undress and moan," he told the "Bild am Sonntag".
"I can remember how my colleague cried afterwards and I was totally upset too." He wouldn't tolerate that anymore today.
'Sure - I'm in a different position now, but unfortunately these things still happen.
Far too often probably.«
In his film Liebesdings by Anika Decker, which starts on Thursday, M'Barek plays a film star who is followed at every turn in Berlin.
»I think it's good that people are sensitized to each other.
That you can no longer say everything and behave in the way it used to be, especially when you think of topics like #MeToo, sexism and diversity," said the 40-year-old, referring to the so-called cancel culture , the theory that people are banned from public life because they are accused of morally wrong behavior.
"A lot has happened in a positive sense socially," says M'Barek, but also qualified: "Sometimes it's also questionable how people are sometimes prejudiced and some people's reputations are destroyed without guilt really being proven."
In the interview, the “Fack ju Göhte” star also talks about the racism in the industry that he was met with.
“I know other times.
When I was advised to change my name because I would never be able to do it.'
At times when he had no role models, “because back then German television was completely white”.
For him, however, that was always his drive and motivation: "I always thought: I'll show these people one day."
