Homelander is Donald Trump: "The Boys" is more satirical than ever Israel today

2022-07-03T06:22:02.662Z

"The Boys" is more than a witty, extreme and deviant series • It drips social criticism on a variety of topics, but above all hovers Homeland - the main villain, whose character is clearly built on elements of the far right

Heroes carry within them supreme qualities that human beings strive for - say, courage, values and sacrifice for the common good.

The idea that everyone dreams of being called a "hero" says a lot about our society, which for its reasons marks heroes as elevated from the individual, but also explains why the superhero genre is so popular and revered.

After all, the word "hero" lies in their name, and because of that - the default is that they are a role model.

But the "Boys" series, which airs on Amazon Prime and will end its third season on Friday, is undermining the convention among its viewers.

It depicts a corporation of heroes with supernatural powers who defeat terrorists, sell merchandise and worldviews, but behave the opposite of heroes.

In this series, the superheroes are the bad guys.

The group is led by Homlander (Anthony Starr), who has been shaped into a sociopathic, sadistic and selfish fascist.

An infantile hero with a growth frenzy, who is able to fly and burn his opponents at a glance.

His character is not politically identified, but his development is outlined: in the past, when he was involved in the tragedy of a plane crash, Homlander used sentences from a speech delivered by George W. Bush after the twin disasters;

This season his character is mostly reminiscent of Donald Trump.

Because under the cloak, Homlander is a privileged white man with infinite ambition, taking more and more power into his own hands on the grounds that it strengthens the state, which is above all.

He laments on TV about freedom of expression and the culture of abolition, speaks populist slogans at mass rallies, distributes Pike News, and cultivates supporters who are blinded by racist, nationalist and chauvinistic messages.

When Homelander points out that he can do whatever he wants and only intensify it publicly, it's a nod to that Trump statement that he will not lose voters even if he shoots someone on Fifth Avenue.

And when Homelander falls in love with a Nazi superheroine, he twists public opinion and presses for patriotic points to increase his support base - as long as it serves his narcissism, he will continue to ignore the consequences.

"The Boys" is more than a witty, extreme and deviant series.

She drips social criticism on a variety of issues, but above all hovers Homeland - the main villain, whose character is clearly built on elements of the far right.

He has a sea of fans, not only within the series but also in real life, who connect to his worldview, nationalism, power and the distorted justice he demands.

Whoever did not understand this, or whoever blindly admires anyone who calls himself a hero, then the satire is on him.
