Pierre Cardin maison, which celebrates with the "Cent" collection, the centenary of the birth of its founder

, who passed away in December 2020. Rodrigo Basilicati Cardin, grandson of the couturier, president and artistic director of the maison, has chosen to celebrate the centenary of his uncle's birth at

Palazzo Ca 'Bragadin,

in the Sestiere di Santa Croce, a residence that Cardin had bought many years ago, making it his private residence when he was staying in Italy.

A short retrospective show kicked off the event with a selection of iconic archival models created by the Italian-French designer over the past seven decades.

Then the presentation of the new "Cent" collection consisting of a series of eco-sustainable clothes and accessories, made with recycled fabrics, natural fibers and materials recovered in the Parisian atelier.

The new models on the catwalk were conceived by the historic team of designers of the maison, under the artistic direction of Rodrigo Basilicati Cardin.

  The collection combines the DNA always projected into the future impressed by the master with the adoption of the most innovative principles of circularity and environmental responsibility to ensure that development is truly sustainable also in the fashion sector.

With "Cent" were used: recycled materials (mainly recycled polyester) from Balas Textile France and Gratacos (Spain, Barcelona);

materials al

100% eco-responsible

like natural fibers (lotus and banana from the Samatoa factory in Cambodia);

organic materials, mainly cotton, Gots certified and coming from the Clerici Tessuto France company.

In addition, the collection was made for 50% with the re-use of the materials of the Pierre Cardin maison and with fabric scraps, "Robe de l'Espace", provided by Thales Alenia Space, an innovative material, resistant to the most extreme temperatures , used in several layers to cover the satellites which represents a real technical challenge as its rigidity contrasts with the lines and curves of the human body.

To confirm its commitment to the environment, the maison has established a new award dedicated to sustainable development, called the Prix Bulles Cardin, a name inspired by the famous

Palais Bulles on the Côte d'Azur

, the favorite residence of the Italian-French designer.

The prize will be awarded each year to 5 works, personalities or actions (carried out by public or private bodies), which will have distinguished themselves in the effective promotion and protection, in different forms, of sustainable development.

All this would have liked a lot to Pierre Cardin, born in Santa'Andrea di Barbarana, a hamlet of San Biagio di Callalta, province of Treviso, in Veneto, the youngest of ten children, who moved to France with his parents when he was just two years old. .

In Paris the Italian tailor,

in 1947, at the age of 25, the first tailor of the Christian Dior maison.

His brand arrived in 1950 and his conception of fashion was immediately clear: it had to be accessible to everyone.

So in 1959 he was among the first couturiers to present a show in the Parisian department stores Au Printemps

.

After all, he was a visionary: "The clothes I prefer are the ones I invent for a lifestyle that does not yet exist: the world of tomorrow".

Already in the early 1960s, the pioneer of ready-to-wear fashion conquered the international fashion market with his avant-garde creations using plastic and vinyl.
