Tricks to keep food fresh (TIKTOK / @ KATYA.MACKLE)
More than once we had to throw in the bin bread, fruits and vegetables that started to accumulate mold before we had a chance to eat them.
A home and welfare expert shared a ticketing video full of tips for keeping our food fresh so we don’t just throw it in the trash.
All its tips are great, but there is no doubt that the most prominent of them is the celery trick that is able to keep the bread fresh for three weeks - without having to freeze it.
We'll tell him more, but Katya McLean opened the video with a method of keeping the banana fresh.
She says she wraps the tops of the bananas in foil, which helps maintain their shelf life.
From there it moves on to its method of keeping the carrots and vegetables fresh.
She says she stores them in water, but she uses special containers to keep the air flowing inside.
She uses the same ventilated containers for berries.
Before that she rinses them in water with apple cider vinegar and waits for them to dry.
When they are dry she puts them in a container - not before she puts a paper towel there.
Immediately afterwards she goes on to talk about the highlight: the bread.
To keep the bread fresh and prevent mold it simply adds a celery stick to the bread bag, next to the slices.
She said: "In this method the bread does not dry out or raise mold for two to three weeks."
She closes her "food preservation tips" video posted under the account @ katya.mackle in a salad storage tip: "I also store on the salad in a container. Dry and washed. The main thing is to have air flow."

If you were wondering why this works - the reason is that the bread absorbs the moisture from the celery, which prevents it from drying out and developing mold.
Her video received hundreds of encouraging comments.
Some have already implemented the tips and noticed the difference.
"I listened to you and the difference is significant. Thanks for the tips," one article and another added: "Great ideas. Just the things that always bring mold to me. Mostly bread. Glad there is a solution to that."
Others have suggested alternative solutions like storing bread in the freezer while not in use, and using vacuum-sealed containers to keep vegetables, herbs and berries fresh.
Katya promised to check out these tips herself.
