(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, JULY 04 - The EU reserves a list of antibiotics for human use only and bans their use in farms.
Member States have given the green light to the Commission's proposal, which will lead to a ban on the sale of veterinary medicinal products containing these antimicrobials within 6 months.
The aim is to preserve the effectiveness of products that are of fundamental importance for human health and are indicated by Brussels as "a real milestone in the EU's fight against antimicrobial resistance".
The list is "the first of its kind in the EU and a world reference point," said EU Health Commissioner StellaKyriakides.
"It is an excellent example - she added - of how we tackle human, animal and plant health together, while also considering the importance of the environment".
