The space in the suitcase is limited, but you should take as much as possible with you.
Be careful, especially with hand luggage.
Airlines ask their customers to checkout here.
Stuttgart - Even if the weather in Germany is showing its best side this summer, many people are drawn to faraway places during the hot season.
Especially after the long travel restrictions caused by the corona pandemic, the desire to travel among Germans is particularly great.
Spontaneous trips are also possible again.
On city breaks, however, you can often only take hand luggage with you.
There are a few things to consider here.
If you pack too much or don't follow the guidelines of the respective airline, the start of your holiday can be expensive.
With these tips it works with the light holiday suitcase.
Be careful with hand luggage: Many airlines reduce the size and weight of the luggage
Many vacationers start their vacation anything but comfortably this year.
Airlines are canceling numerous flights due to a lack of staff.
At Stuttgart Airport, however, people are optimistic that chaos can be averted.
For many holidaymakers, the trouble can already begin at check-in.
Because, especially with cheap flights, there is often a rude awakening afterwards: Although you save on the flight, checking in a suitcase costs extra.
Depending on the airline, this can put quite a strain on the holiday budget.
If you think you can switch to hand luggage, you have to be careful here too.
Many airlines have now reduced their permitted suitcase sizes and the weight of the luggage.
The dimensions of 55 x 40 x 20 centimeters are no longer standard everywhere.
These dimensions apply to airlines for hand luggage (including wheels and handle):
airline | weight in kilograms | Dimensions in centimeters (length, width, height) |
Easyjet | 15kg | 45x36x20cm |
condor | 8kg | 40x30x10cm |
Eurowings | 8kg | 40x30x25cm |
Lufthansa (economy) | 8kg | 40x30x25cm |
TUIfly (pure tariff) | 6kg | 55x40x20cm |
Ryanair | not specified | 40x20x25cm |

Anyone who does not comply with the baggage allowance must pay.
Depending on the flight route and route or the season, this can cost up to 150 euros, as

Many airlines require you to check in oversized or heavy baggage.
There is a risk of additional costs.
Pack cleverly: This is how you save space in your suitcase
The good thing about flights in summer: The clothes are lighter and thinner than winter clothes, for example.
As a result, much more fits in the case.
If you also wear a lot of clothing on the flight, you can also take a lot with you free of charge.
Since it is usually quite cool on the plane anyway due to air conditioning and ventilation, it makes sense to put on several layers of clothing on the flight.
If you pack according to outfits that can be easily combined with each other, you save on superfluous items.
Pants can usually be worn several times and easily combined with another top.

Heavy objects such as books or shoes should always be placed at the bottom of the suitcase, otherwise they can crumple clothes.
Light dresses, shirts or blouses form the last "pack layer".
Rolling clothes, T-shirts and trousers instead of folding not only saves space, but also prevents the clothes from becoming too wrinkled.
Cavities in the suitcase can be filled with smaller items of clothing, such as underwear.
Socks can be stuffed into shoes, for example, so this empty space is also filled.
If you want to store as much clothing as possible in the suitcase, you can also use vacuum bags.
They reduce the volume again by a good bit.
What can be carried in hand luggage:
Liquids up to 100 milliliters
Cosmetics up to 100 milliliters
Deodorant up to 100 milliliters
Electrical appliances
Razor without exposed blades
electric razors
Medication for the duration of the trip
birth control pills
solid foods
baby food
Power bank up to 100 watt hours
Duty Free Shopping
E cigarette
Small musical instruments
Be careful with the amount of creams, lotions and ointments in your hand luggage
It is much more difficult when it comes to hand luggage when it comes to cosmetics.
Overall, only shampoo, ointments and lotions with 100 milliliters each are allowed in the on-board case.
In addition, all liquid containers must be packed in a transparent and sealable bag (up to a maximum of 1 liter).
With creams, ointments and lotions, you should therefore pay close attention to the amount.
This is not allowed in hand luggage:
deodorant or hairspray
nail polish remover
Razor with detachable blade
razor blades
Of course, bargain hunters can also use the products in the hotels.
Shampoo, shower gel and soap are usually available in the rooms.
Another possibility are solid cosmetic products.
Shampoo, body lotion and perfume are also available in one piece.
They are not only a good alternative and can be carried indefinitely, they are also better for the environment.
Space hogs such as towels and hair dryers can also stay at home.
These are now standard in most hotels and accommodations.
