Spotify is testing new tools with which it will allow you to record, edit and publish podcasts directly from the main app.

The company premiered the feature in New Zealand last month.

The novelty will eliminate the need to use a separate app, such as Anchor owned by Spotify itself, to make your own podcasts.

Michael Mignano, co-founder of Anchor, said the integration will allow episodes to be released without "additional tools or hardware".

On Twitter, the New Zealand account of Spotify has posted a video with which it provides some information on the functionality.

Upon arrival, you will see a + button next to "Your Library" in the bottom bar of the main screen.

By clicking it, you will have the options "Record podcast" and "Create playlist".

The first will open a screen with the clip recording button to record the audio at once or pause and resume it later.

Once you have finished recording, you can edit the clip and add background music through a preset of available tracks.

After editing, you will be able to assign a title, enter an episode description, tag another podcast or song, and publish the finished work.

Spotify had tested a "Create Podcast" button in 2019, but instead of providing in-app tools, it asked users to download Anchor as an external crafting app.

Last month, during an investor meeting,

CEO Daniel Ek said the company strongly believes in podcasts, seeing them as an opportunity to increase revenue by as much as 50%.

The company said it posted $ 215 million in podcasting revenue last year after investing more than $ 1 billion in the industry.
