Delivered today in Rome by the Italian Sommelier Foundation cuttings of Nebbiolo, Sangiovese and Aglianico to the Italian Space Agency (ASI) to start an experiment project in orbit, in the international space station.
The assignment, made in a representative way with representative cuttings of the North, Center and South of the Italian territory and with a solemn ceremony at the Rome Cavalieri, took place with the holding of the Wine Culture Forum.
The meeting, now in its fifteenth edition and entitled "Infinite space, eternity of wine", was dedicated to the late Italian journalist, TV presenter and politician David Sassoli.
The timing of the launch of the wine experimentation project in orbit has not been communicated.
The objectives of the initiative - Asi informs - are those linked to the theme of astronauts' nutrition but also to the possibility of producing plants and food in zero gravity.
In recent months, Asi, in relation to the agri-food theme, has launched the "Evoo" project with a selection of four Italian extra virgin olive oils that are bonus food for astronauts and protagonists of an experiment on the effects of staying in the space.
"The wine experimentation project - commented the president of the Italian space agency Giorgio Saccoccia - is part of the trend of astronaut nutrition, for the production of food and for obtaining useful scientific results. It would be nice to drink a glass of wine in space, produced in orbit ".
