(ANSA) - ROME - 84% of Italian wine companies have at least one certification in the field of environmental or social sustainability and 53% are certified Viva Sustainable Wine or Equalitas.

This is what emerges from a survey conducted by Altis, High School, Business and Society of the Catholic University and Opera - European Observatory for sustainable agriculture, on a sample of 70 Italian companies.

The analysis shows that 67% of the sample is "supporters of substantial sustainability, with many initiatives and projects that are virtuous but poorly - according to analysts - structured and little valued in terms of communication".

The study also underlines that "only 8% of companies adopt a cutting-edge approach, where sustainability takes on a strategic guiding role and socio-environmental commitment permeates the company context and culture".

The researchers highlight that "it was not possible to classify 12% of companies due to the absence of sustainability information" and that, from the point of view of communication on company websites, most of the companies (43%) " and their commitment on sustainability issues was exhaustive, followed by 37% who did not communicate anything and 20% who provided limited information, mainly linked to the certifications held ".

The result, according to the survey, is that "in the face of a concrete commitment to quality, safety, territory and people, the sector is still not very aware" and "an integrated approach and effective communication are needed for the value of sustainability to be transferred and recognized by consumers, in light of the situation that just over 20% present a strategic plan (21.4%) and draw up a sustainability report (25.7%) ".
