That's why liquid butter splatters in the microwave - and in the pan

Full-fat butter is at least 80 percent fat and no more than 16 percent water.

Water and oil don't mix.

When the fat and water separate during heating, the fat lays over the water like a layer.

As soon as the water then quickly evaporates at high heat, it breaks through the layer of fat and splashes.

In the pan or saucepan, the key is to slowly heat the butter and stir well while the butter melts.

Liquid butter from the microwave: How it works without splashing

  • Place the amount of butter you want to melt in a microwave-safe bowl.

  • Set the lowest wattage on your microwave.

  • Now do not heat the butter for more than 30 seconds at first.

If you only want to melt a small amount, 15 seconds is enough.

  • Then check whether this period of time may have been sufficient.

To do this, try gently stirring the butter with a spoon and crushing larger pieces of butter.

  • If the butter has not melted enough, continue to work in small intervals of no more than 5 to 10 seconds until you are satisfied with the result.

  • If you really want to protect yourself from butter explosions and splatters, cover the dish with a piece of parchment paper.

is a quick, easy and clean way to melt butter in the microwave
