Red Bull is working on a new hypercar - the RB17.

The good piece should have over 1,100 hp and be equipped with Formula 1 technology.

Fuschl am See, Austria – Today, Red Bull is much more than a manufacturer of energy drinks.

The company gained a foothold in motorsport a long time ago.

In Formula 1 in particular, Red Bull has repeatedly enjoyed great success, most recently with Max Verstappen's championship title in the 2021 season. Red Bull has now turned its attention to the super sports car segment.

The company has teased a new hypercar that aims to push the performance limits of the class to a new level.

Red Bull: A super sports car conceived by Formula 1 designers

What car is that?

For some time now, some die-hard Formula 1 fans have been puzzled that there is a gap in the Red Bull fleet.

The racing car of the current season is called RB18, while the previous models were still called RB16 and RB16B.

So where is the RB17?

As it turns out, a car with the name has been in the works for some time, but not as a Formula 1 car. Instead, that's the title Red Bull is developing a new hypercar under.

The company has now teased the first images of the RB17 on YouTube.

What is known about the car?

With the RB17, Red Bull Advanced Technologies has set itself high goals.

The team wants to usher in nothing less than a “

new era of performance

” with the hypercar.

There is prominent support for this.

The RB17 is designed by Adrian Newey, who has also designed the Formula 1 cars of recent years and thus helped Max Verstappen to win the 2021 season.

Newey is now bringing this experience from Formula 1 to the design of the crazy super sports car.

The RB17 should be able to achieve over 1,100 hp with a weight of just 900 kilograms.

For comparison: Cars in the same class from Porsche, Ferrari or McLaren easily weigh a few hundred kilos more.

At the heart of Red Bull's RB17 is a V8 biturbo hybrid engine.

Designer Adrian Newey has not revealed much more than that, even the exact appearance of the RB17 is not really known from the announcement video.

Red Bull: Good things take time and price

What should the RB17 cost?

Anyone who is already toying with the idea of grabbing the RB17 for publication should at best have saved up a lot of their own capital.

In contrast to the technical characteristics, Red Bull has already given more precise information about the number of units and the price of the hypercar.

The base price of the RB17 is said to be around 5.8 million euros, before any taxes and duties.

In addition, only 50 copies of the super sports car are to be produced.

  • Red Bull RB17 – All known information so far:

    1,100+ hp

  • Weight:

    ~ 900 kg

  • Price:

    ~ 5.8 million euros

  • Release:

It is still questionable whether the RB17 will even be street legal.

After all, the car should be designed for racetracks, but in the case of super sports cars, approval for “conventional” use cannot be ruled out.

More details will emerge by 2025 – then Red Bull wants to deliver the first RB17.
