From unemployment to self-employment – this is exactly where the start-up grant is intended to help.

But what do you actually have to consider when founding a company?

The step into self-employment can be exactly the right decision for many, if there weren't so many ambiguities and hurdles that make the way more difficult.

In most cases, for example, own start-up capital is required for a

start -up

necessary.

Anyone who wants to found a company can then try to get

funding programs

from the federal and state governments.

However, anyone who was previously unemployed can also be supported by the employment agency, as

reported by the

wage tax assistance association

.

Support for founding: the unemployed can hope for a start-up grant from the office

The

start

-up subsidy is intended to be both an incentive and support for unemployed people.

They should thus build a new existence and be encouraged to take the step into self-employment.

However, there is no legal entitlement to this funding - the decision is at the discretion of the Employment Agency.

If you want to receive a start-up subsidy, this is subject to various

conditions

.

Good news first:

The start-up grant is tax-free.

You can also get further support from federal and state funding programs.

If you are unemployed and want to become self-employed, you can apply for a start-up subsidy from the Employment Agency.

Under these conditions, you can receive the start-up grant

You can apply for a start-up grant under four conditions:

  • Existing unemployment:

If you take up self-employment, you must still be entitled to unemployment benefit I for at least 150 days.

If you receive unemployment benefit II, you cannot apply for a start-up grant.

The Employment Agency offers you the opportunity to apply for the entry fee.

  • Duration of working time:

The self-employed work must lead to the end of unemployment and have a minimum working time of 15 hours per week.

  • Qualifications:

You must prove to the Employment Agency that you are able to carry out the planned activity.

This can be done, for example, through professional experience or further training.

  • Future viability:

The Employment Agency would like to know whether the business you want to establish is sustainable and can ensure that you generate sufficient income.

You can prove this, for example, with statements from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, trade associations or professional chambers.

Start-up subsidy: How much money do you get and in what period of time?

The start-up subsidy has to be divided into two phases, in which founders receive money.

The

first phase

covers the first

six months

of self-employment.

The founder receives the well-known unemployment benefit plus

a start-up allowance of 300 euros

.

So if you have received 1,500 euros of unemployment benefit, you now get 300 euros.

This surcharge is used for social security, so the 300 euros are used to pay for health, nursing care and pension insurance.

After the six months, the second phase

of the foundation starts

, during this time the founders have to support themselves.

You only receive the

300 euros

to pay for health, nursing care and pension insurance.

You will receive this supplement for

nine months

.

Tax on the start-up grant?

No – but of course you have to pay tax on the profit

The start-up subsidy from the Employment Agency itself is

tax-free

.

This means that you don't have to pay attention to anything else.

However, you must of course pay tax on your profit from self-employment and make a tax return.
