After a man fell fatally into a hole in his garden in Bad Sulza near Weimar, the search for the cause continues.
On Wednesday, a team from the Thuringian State Office for the Environment, Mining and Nature Conservation (TLUBN) used a camera to take pictures inside the approximately six meter deep hole.
Since experts assume there is a risk of further landslides around the hole, a fire brigade ladder truck was pulled to help.
According to a TLUBN spokesman, the first results are not yet available.
The images should now be examined and evaluated.
Historical maps are checked
In addition, historical maps of past mining at the site would need to be further examined to determine if the hole may have been created by a sudden sinkhole or is related to so-called legacy mining in the region.
It will probably take some time before he has substantial results, said the spokesman.
On Monday, a 62-year-old man fell into the hole on the outskirts of town while mowing the lawn and died.
According to the police, it had suddenly opened up.
