Sport is important for health.
Can you just take pills instead that have the same effect?
Researchers have investigated this question in a study.
Frankfurt – If you exercise regularly, you stay healthy and fit.
The fact that the same positive effect can be achieved by taking pills is considered implausible.
Researchers in the USA have asked themselves what exactly happens in the body during exercise and whether the positive effect of exercise can also be achieved in other ways, for example by taking pills.
In a study published in the journal
Nature
, the scientists present their results.
And they are amazing.
Because according to this, a certain molecule plays an important role in the human body during sport and also in nutrition.

Pills instead of sports?
In a study, researchers discover a specific molecule
In their study, the researchers analyzed the blood in mice after exercise.
They discovered that the molecule "Lac-Phe" is produced in the body during strenuous exercise.
This is a modified amino acid that can effectively reduce food intake and obesity.

“Chronic administration of Lac-Phe reduces obesity and body weight and improves glucose homeostasis.
Conversely, genetic ablation of Lac-Phe biosynthesis in mice increases food intake and post-exercise obesity," the study said.
However, further studies are needed to extrapolate the results to humans.
There are many ways to lose weight: dieting, exercising or fasting.
But sport alone does not bring what many think.

Although it will not be possible to replace sport for the time being, the findings of the study could in future ensure that certain effects of sport can be imitated by taking pills.
As co-author of the study Jonathan Long reports, the researchers particularly hope that "elderly or frail people who cannot move enough will one day benefit from taking a medication that can help prevent osteoporosis, heart disease or other diseases to slow down".
